Augmentative and Alternative Communication

Marisa is LAMP trained by The Center for AAC & Autism. She presented a poster at ATIA in 2024 and a lecture at ATIA in 2025.
AAC supplements or compensates for impairments in speech-language production and/or comprehension. AAC is a type of assistive technology, or the use of any equipment, tool, or strategy to improve functional daily living in individuals with disabilities or limitations.
AAC can help your child express their thoughts, wants and needs, feelings, and ideas. Babble & Bite believes in a total communication approach. We validate all communication modalities and believe all communication attempts can be learning opportunities. For example:
- Manual signs
- Gestures
- Facial expressions
- Finger spelling
- Use of tangible objects
- Line drawings
- Picture communication boards and letter boards
- Speech-generating devices
Babble & Bite can help with low, mid, and high tech AAC assessment and trials for selecting AAC interventions that are most salient to your child. We are passionate about educating all communication partners in your child’s life; after all, it takes a village!
